The Federal Government is allegedly all geared up to proceed with its planned implementation of a five percent excise duty tax on mobile phone services, fixed telephone, and Internet services in the country.
This news is coming regardless of the recent announcement by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, who had stated that the federal government had exempted the telecoms sector from excise duty tax.
According to the minister, the Information, Technology and Communication sector, particularly the telecom industry was already overwhelmed by several and multiple taxations, which may adversely affect the sector if the federal government doesn’t take the necessary precautions.
