According to the White House, the US Justice Department is analyzing potentially
confidential materials discovered in President Joe Biden’s previous office at a think
group.
Mr. Biden’s legal team discovered about ten of the files in a locked cupboard at the
Penn Biden Center in Washington in November, according to his lawyer.
The collection has been turned over to the National Archives.
Mr. Biden’s predecessor, Donald Trump, is under investigation for transferring secret
information to Florida after leaving office.
The FBI is investigating sensitive materials discovered at the Penn Biden Center, and
US Attorney General Merrick Garland has been ordered to investigate the records.
The Biden files were discovered soon before the Justice Department announced that it would appoint an independent lawyer to assess whether to charge Mr. Trump criminally in connection with the materials recovered at his golf club.
On Monday, Congressman James Comer, the new Republican head of the House
Oversight Committee, stated that the handling of the Biden papers raised concerns
about the Justice Department’s neutrality.
