Five people sustained serious injuries on Tuesday in an accident that occurred at the main gate of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) headquarters along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
According to PUNCH Metro, the incident was confirmed in a traffic update by the Commandant General of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Seni Ogunyemi, on Wednesday.
Ogunyemi explained that the crash happened when a Toyota Sienna bus collided with a Toyota Highlander, which then veered off course and ran into a group of pedestrians.
He said, “A serious road traffic accident occurred in front of RCCG main gate, seven persons were involved and five persons were injured.
“According to an eyewitness, excessive speed and loss of control by the driver of the Toyota Sienna caused it to hit a Toyota Highlander from the rear. In the process, the vehicle somersaulted into the drainage and knocked down the injured victims.”
He noted that a total of seven people were involved in the accident, with five suffering varying degrees of injuries.
Emergency responders from TRACE, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the police were present at the scene to manage traffic and ensure rescue efforts. The damaged vehicle was later towed to the Mowe Police Station for further investigation.
Ogunyemi added, “TRACE, FRSC, and the police were on the ground monitoring the traffic situation while the accident vehicle was towed to Mowe Police Station for further investigation.
“However, three victims were rescued to OSUTH in Sagamu by OGSAES while the remaining two were rescued to Famobis Hospital at Lotto by FRSC.”
He also listed the vehicles involved in the crash as a blue Toyota Sienna (MUS 51 JU), a wine-coloured Toyota Highlander (LSD 782 DY), and two Bajaj motorcycles — one red (DED 801 UV) and the other with registration number AKM 524 VD.
