Luis Suarez, an Uruguay striker has said that he can never apologize to Ghana over the incident that transpired between him and a Ghanaian player in the quarter-finals of the 2010 world cup in South Africa.
Luis Suarez stopped a Ghanaian player from scoring, as the ball ended up hitting his hand. Ghana was later awarded a penalty Asamoah Gyan was unable to convert it into a goal, and Ghana later crashed out of the tournament as they lost to Uruguay through a penalty shootout.
So many Ghanaians have demanded that Suarez should apologize for making them lose a goal, that would have seen them qualify for the semi-finals of the game.
Speaking on this, Suarez has said, that he doesn’t see any need to apologize, he was awarded a red card for his mistake, and despite that Asamoah Gyan lost the penalty which wasn’t his fault, if he had injured the player, then he could have apologized.
The first time, I don’t apologize about that,” Suarez told the media at a press conference ahead of Uruguay’s 2022 FIFA World Cup final group game against Ghana on Friday evening.
“I took the handball – but the Ghana player [Gyan] missed a penalty, not me. Maybe I apologize if I injure a player, but in this situation, I take a red card, and the referee says penalty, it’s not my fault.”
