The former deputy speaker of the house of representatives, Emeka Ihedioha, has clarified a remark he made, where he referred to Peter Obi’s followers as saboteurs. He expressed regret for the situation as well.
He had received backlash over a remark he had reportedly made during an Igbo community’s new yam ceremony in Accra, Ghana, where he had supposedly called Peter Obi’s supporters, saboteurs.
The former governor of Imo State had, however, through a statement he made on Friday, remarked that his words had been misconstrued by critics.
“That cannot be me. It is far from the truth and not in my character. I believe even in dissent from within my immediate nuclear family,” Ihedioha had reiterated on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily program
He then went on to fault those criticizing his comment, stating that they did not understand the context in which the remark was made. The PDP chieftain has, however, apologized to those who may have been hurt by his remark, adding that he respects people’s choices, most especially in politics.
