Kayode Fayemi, the ex-governor of Ekiti State, is currently undergoing interrogation at the zonal command office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Ilorin, Kwara State. Reliable sources familiar with the matter have revealed that Fayemi arrived at the EFCC facility on Thursday morning, around 9:40 am.
The investigation is believed to be linked to the handling of funds during Fayemi’s tenure as governor of Ekiti State. It has been suggested by another source that he is not the sole former governor currently under scrutiny.
Fayemi, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), served as governor of Ekiti State from 2018 to 2022. After the June 2022 governorship election, he handed over the reins to Biodun Oyebanji. Reports indicate that the former governor had previously submitted a request to the EFCC, seeking a postponement of his invitation regarding the alleged misappropriation of funds.
Fayemi had sought the postponement due to his participation in the launch of two books dedicated to former President Muhammadu Buhari.
