Stephen Oronsaye, a former Head of Service of the Federation, has been declared not guilty and acquitted of the N2 billion fraud charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Oronsaye had been standing trial since 2015 alongside Osarenkhoe Afe, the Managing Director of Frederick Hamilton Global Services Limited, on corruption allegations related to the use of two companies for fraudulent biometrics enrolment.
During the ruling on Monday, Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja discharged and acquitted Oronsaye, stating that the prosecution had failed to present sufficient evidence to justify a conviction. The court further emphasized that none of the 21 witnesses called by the EFCC had provided credible evidence in support of the charges.
