In a significant move towards combating poverty and climate change in rural areas, French President Emmanuel Macron has pledged a generous investment of $150 million in the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). This commitment was announced as France took on the responsibility of hosting and organizing the 13th replenishment of IFAD’s resources.

President Macron shared this momentous announcement through a video message broadcast during a charity concert organized by the non-profit group Global Citizen in New York. This substantial contribution underscores France’s dedication to addressing critical global challenges in rural regions.

IFAD, a United Nations agency headquartered in Rome, plays a vital role in the fight against poverty and hunger in the rural areas of developing countries. The French investment will further empower IFAD to implement essential programs and initiatives aimed at improving the lives of those in need.

But France’s commitment to global development doesn’t stop there. French Secretary of State for Development and International Partnerships, Chrysoula Zacharopoulou, also revealed that France will allocate 40 million euros (equivalent to $43 million) to the United Nations’ global fund for education in emergencies and protracted crises, known as Education Cannot Wait (ECW), over the period of 2023-2026.
