Frank Lampard has returned to management with Coventry City, 18 months after he last held a managerial post. The former England international, 46, has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Sky Blues, who sit 17th in the Championship, two points above the relegation zone.
Lampard replaces Mark Robins, who was sacked after seven years with the club as Coventry seeks to reverse a difficult campaign. Accompanying Lampard into CBS Arena are trusted lieutenants Joe Edwards and Chris Jones, who have served the manager in all of his past managerial roles.
Club owner Doug King expressed his optimism for the appointment: “I am delighted that Frank Lampard has agreed to join our club as head coach. Frank’s experience in the Championship and his time at clubs like Chelsea and Everton prepare him with the knowledge and vision to lead our squad toward success at the highest level.
This is Lampard’s fourth managerial role, after spells at Derby County, Everton, and Chelsea, where he briefly returned as interim manager in 2023. His first challenge as Coventry boss comes this Saturday, with a crucial home fixture against Cardiff City.
