Liverpool manager, Arne Slot, has said that Jeremie Frimpong will not play after he got a hamstring injury in the Premier League match against Bournemouth.
Frimpong, who was taken off after 60 minutes at Anfield, was removed from the game on the advice of the medical staff of Liverpool. Slot announced that although questioned at the time, the correct decision was made after the scans confirmed the injury.
“The medical staff were absolutely right about Jeremie,” Slot said. “The decision was not related to his performance. We anticipate his return after the international break.”
The injury Frimpong is suffering from compels Liverpool to have less at right-back, as both Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez have only recently come back from being on the sidelines.
Bradley was able to take part in training on Friday for the first time since his injury, while Gomez is still working on his overall fitness after a long absence.
Slot gave the impression that Liverpool could play their two midfielders, Wataru Endo and Dominik Szoboszlai, who are known for their versatility, in defence against Newcastle this weekend.
Frimpong has a great fitness record overall despite this unfortunate injury, as he has only been absent for four Bundesliga matches during the last three seasons at Bayer Leverkusen.
