The 2035 FIFA Women’s World Cup will be held in the United Kingdom while the 2031 tournament will be jointly hosted by the USA and Mexico, FIFA president Gianni Infantino announced on Thursday.
Infantino made the announcement at the 49th UEFA Congress in Belgrade, where FIFA received “one valid bid” for each of the next two consecutive available Women’s World Cups. ‘The 2031 bid is USA and possibly some other CONCACAF nations. The 2035 bid is from Europe, from the home nations,” he said.
That decision effectively means the UK will host the tournament in 2035, the first FIFA World Cup to be held on British soil since 1966. Mark Bullingham, the CEO of English FA, said about the opportunity,
“We are privileged to be the only bidder for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2035.” “So the hard work starts now to assemble the best possible bid by the end of this year.”
Confirmation will come at FIFA’s Congress next year. England, a finalist in the 2023 Women’s World Cup and the defending European champion, can look forward to potentially hosting on home soil in 2035.
