Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has poured out her appreciation following the special recognition she received from the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) for her outstanding contributions and record-breaking achievements in the Nigerian film industry.

The NFVCB honoured Akindele at a ceremony held on Friday at its Ikoyi office in Lagos, which was attended by key industry stakeholders and practitioners.

The celebrated actress emerged as one of the biggest winners of the event, carting home several awards.

She received the Box Office Champion Award (2020) for her blockbuster hit Omo Ghetto. She also clinched the Audience Choice Award (2024/2025) and the Box Office Champion Award (2024/2025) for Everybody Loves Jenifa, alongside the Box Office Champion Award (2025/2026) for Behind The Scenes.

Taking to her Instagram page to react, Akindele described the honour as deeply meaningful, noting that it was a recognition of her dedication, consistency, and years of hard work in the entertainment industry.

“Yesterday was truly special. I was honoured and recognised for my hard work and consistency in the entertainment industry, and my heart is full of gratitude,” she wrote.

She went on to appreciate the organisers and key figures behind the event.

“My sincere appreciation to Dr Shaibu Husseini, Executive Director of the Nigerian Film and Video Censors Board, and to Honourable Hannatu Musawa, Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy of Nigeria, for this incredible recognition.

“Thank you to all the guilds and associations who showed up in love and support — AGN, AMP, CEAN, DGN, RATTAWU.”

Akindele dedicated the awards to God, her fans, family, team, and colleagues, while also encouraging creatives to remain steadfast in their pursuits.

“This award belongs to God, my amazing fans, my family, my hardworking team, and every colleague who has walked this journey with me.

“I dedicate this to every creative who dares to dream big and stay consistent. Thank you all for believing in me and in the vision. The journey continues, and the best is yet to come,” she added.

The recognition further cements Akindele’s status as one of Nollywood’s most influential and successful filmmakers.
