Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has recorded another historic milestone as her latest cinema release, Behind The Scenes, has officially crossed the ₦1 billion mark at the Nigerian box office, earning a total of ₦1,109,463,846.

The achievement was announced on Monday by FilmOne Entertainment via its official X page, where the distributor described the feat as groundbreaking and unmatched within the West African film industry.

According to FilmOne, Behind The Scenes has become the fastest film in West Africa to exceed ₦1 billion, while also setting a new benchmark for the highest single-day box office gross on Boxing Day, with earnings of ₦129.5 million.

“Fastest film in West Africa to cross ₦1B+,” the distributor wrote, adding that the movie also recorded “the highest single-day gross ever on Boxing Day (₦129.5M).”

The company further disclosed that the film currently stands as the highest-grossing theatrical release of 2025, maintaining impressive momentum weeks after its debut in cinemas.

FilmOne also spotlighted Funke Akindele’s continued dominance at the box office, describing her as “the only director to cross ₦1B+ at the box office three different times” and “Nollywood’s highest-grossing producer of all time.”

The distributor added that Akindele has now made history as “the first filmmaker to deliver three consecutive ₦1B+ films in one calendar year,” a record yet to be matched in the industry.

“Thank you to everyone for the love and support so far. This win is for all of us,” FilmOne stated.

Earlier reports had noted that Behind The Scenes generated ₦512 million within just 12 days of its cinema release, making it the highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2025 at that point. The film held advanced screenings on December 10 and 11 before its nationwide release on December 12.

Within days, it crossed the ₦200 million mark and went on to deliver what FilmOne described as “the biggest opening weekend of 2025,” alongside multiple opening-weekend records, including the highest admissions recorded that year.

At the time, the distributor announced: “₦512M at the box office. Highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2025. Fastest Nollywood movie to hit ₦500M. Number one film of the weekend.”

Behind The Scenes explores the realities of “black tax,” focusing on the emotional and financial burden placed on individuals responsible for supporting extended family members — a theme that has strongly resonated with audiences.

The film stars Scarlet Gomez in the lead role and features a star-studded ensemble including Funke Akindele, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, Uche Montana, Uzor Arukwe, Ini Dima-Okojie, Adebowale “Mr Macaroni”, Ibrahim Chatta, Kamo State, and reality TV stars Handi and Wanni Danbaki, among others.
