Popular Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Funke Akindele has narrated how she was refused from playing major roles during her days as an upcoming actress because people regarded her as “not fine.”
While speaking in the latest episode of the TokeMoments podcast, hosted by Toke Makinwa, Akindele revealed that she had lost major roles even in Yoruba indigenous movies because of her facial looks.
She then went on to reveal how fellow actress, Iyabo Ojo, had helped her several times during her altercations with filmmakers who refused her movie roles because of her looks.
And when lucky enough to bag roles, the actress would only be given insignificant ‘minor’ roles which would made her cry.
Ms. Akindele had said:
“I remember when people would tell me, ‘You are not pretty. You don’t have ass. You have no boobs. You will not be starring in this film.”
“I also remember crying. A lot of times I would break down and cry, sometimes I would even get into the bathroom and cry.”
