Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, isn’t keeping calm back when it comes to his latest comments about Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the National President of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Adeleke has accused Ganduje of being a dangerous threat to Nigeria’s democracy, urging President Bola Tinubu to intervene and reign in the former Kano State governor. His remarks came in response to Ganduje’s audacious statement about “seizing” Osun State in the 2026 elections, following the APC’s victory in the Ondo State governorship election last Saturday.
Ganduje’s comments have sparked outrage, with Adeleke calling out the APC leader for being dissatisfied with the peace and unity in the South West behind Tinubu. According to Adeleke, Ganduje’s divisive comment is an attempt to create political instability and manipulate regional tensions, all in a bid to undermine Tinubu’s position ahead of the 2027 elections.
One would expect a seasoned politician like Ganduje to have a better understanding of local politics, but apparently, that’s not the case. Adeleke made it clear that Ganduje’s expectations of easily winning Osun in 2026 are misplaced. He pointed out that electoral outcomes are determined by local factors, and that what happened in Edo and Ondo isn’t a blueprint for success in Osun. As Adeleke bluntly stated, “What works in Edo and Ondo doesn’t necessarily apply in Osun State.” “Osun is the heart of the Yoruba people,” he added, “and we don’t take kindly to anyone trying to trample on our democratic rights.”
So, here we are again, in the midst of Nigeria’s absurd political system. While the country is struggling with its many challenges, one politician is already plotting how his party can dominate the 2026 election. The common good is a secondary concern to these power-hungry politicians. If you ask me, this is just another day in the ridiculous world of Nigerian politics.
