The Jigawa State’s Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps -NSCDC yesterday confirmed that five people had been injured from a suspected smuggled gas that exploded in the Babura Local Government Area of the state. The Spokesman of the NSCDC, Adamu Shehu, who confirmed the incident that had happened in Dutse added that the explosion also damaged shops and houses.
According to Shehu, the incident had occurred on Monday at about 9.00 p.m., after security operatives on stop-and-search in the area flagged down a truck carrying 25 gas cylinders.
The driver of the truck refused to stop while being pursued by the operatives, leading to one of the gas cylinders falling off the truck and sparking fire immediately. The victims are at present, receiving treatment at the Babura General Hospital, Shehu had affirmed.
Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Lawan Shiisu, has also confirmed the incident, adding that 17 shops and 5 houses were damaged by the inferno that led to the explosion.
