The ‘Asoka makeup trend’ has kept beauty enthusiasts on their toes and I love how wholesome it is. I haven’t been able to skip any ‘Asoka’ video that has popped up on my FYP since the whole affair began.
The music for the Asoka trend was dubbed from an early 2000s Bollywood movie with the same name as the trend, ‘Asoka’ featuring foremost Bollywood actors, Kareena Kapoor and Shah Rukh Khan.
The music in the movie had continued to be an OST until a South East Asian girlie used the sound for an Indian bridal makeup content which immediately caught-on like wildfire and now, my FYP has not been the same.
The ‘Asoka makeup trend’ involves makeup artists, influencers and enthusiast moving their upper body to the melodious tune of “San Sanana” (a.k.a the Asoka music). As they vibe to the music, they use creative transitions to gradually transform their everyday looks into stunning Indian bridal makeup, revealing the final look as the song reaches its finale.
Now, this trend drew me into the world of the average Indian bridal look. From what I saw on TikTok, achieving the look is no easy feat, so I thought to do a bit of research on Asoka and the bridal makeup.
The Classic Indian Bridal Make-up:
To successfully achieve the look of a beautiful, blushing Indian bride, you have to put into consideration, these few points:
Match the Skin Complexion:
A perfect skin base with a radiant finish is the ideal canvas when you’re going for any Indian bridal look.
When this is achieved, make sure to contour as it is a must for enhancing that facial structure, unique to Indian brides.
Dramatic Eyes:
This is a prominent feature of the Indian bridal makeup. Think dark kohl/eyeliners, bold eyeshadows, bindi and heavy mascaras are used to define the eyes dramatically.
Eyeshadows in hues of gold, bronze, or vibrant jewel tones adds the final touch to the Indian traditional attire and jewelry.
Bold Lips:
From bright reds to deep maroons, the bridal look is never complete without a bright splash of colour standing out against the more subdued tones of the base makeup.
In the Indian culture, the bright colours symbolize prosperity and marital bliss.
Jewelry and Accessories:
This is the boss that ties up the whole bridal look. I mean have you ever seen an Indian bride without her precious jewelries and adornment.
The headpieces, necklaces, earrings and bangles were solely made for the classic Indian bride.
The Takeaway:
The power of TikTok doesn’t seem to be waning anytime soon and trends such as the Asoka bridal makeup trend serves to play an important role in promoting and spotlighting the various cultures of the world.
Lord knows how much I’m obsessed with the trend, mostly because of the song
