Well-known Yoruba Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju James, aka Baba Ijesha, has appealed his five-year jail term at the Lagos Division of the Appeal Court.
The actor had urged the Appeal Court to waive his conviction by a Lagos State High Court for reportedly sexually assaulting a minor.
Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court had on July 12, 2022, convicted the Yoruba Nollywood actor to five years imprisonment over the sexual assault of a minor.
But Baba Ijesha who was unsatisfied with the court judgement had approached the Appeal Court to dispute the term.
He had through his counsel, Kayode Olabiran, on Tuesday, told the Appeal Court that his client was set up and that he [Baba Ijesha] had acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague.
Olabiran had said:
“The appellant was set up. The appellant is an actor. He acted in a script that he was invited to act by his colleague (PW1), Damilola Adekoya.”
However, the Director of Public Prosecution, Babajide Martins, had urged the court to dismiss the appeal for wanting in merit and also a misunderstanding.
Finally, he urged the court to uphold the judgment of the lower court.
