Police officials in Ghana have affirmed that five nationals were being charged in association with staging a demonstration in August in support of the Russian mercenary group, Wagner.
The insignificant gathering had occurred in the southwestern city of Takoradi on Sunday, 13 August, 10 days prior to the Wagner boss, Yevgeny Prigozhin’s demise in an airplane crash.
Eyewitnesses had informed the BBC that those attending the rally had worn Wagner mercenary-branded shirts and had flown Russian flags.
Wagner has had a concrete presence in numerous African countries over the recent years, most particularly in the Central African Republic, CAR, Libya and Mali.
Those apprehended for organising the event will be facing trial next month, in October but police officials are yet to state exactly the charges they will be facing.
