Formula 1 and the FIA have confirmed they have accepted a General Motors-backed Cadillac entry set to join the grid as its 11th team in the 2026 season. It is the first expansion of the sport beyond 10 teams since 2016.
A joint statement issued by both F1 and the FIA on Friday confirmed the decision, which follows a lengthy evaluation process covering sporting, technical and commercial aspects. F1, after initially supporting American motorsport group Andretti’s bid then turning against it last year, has now backed the project.
That prompted Andretti to make some internal changes, with Michael Andretti stepping back to allow a General Motors-backed standalone Cadillac entry to be formed.
That long-anticipated addition should increase competition even more, helping to grow F1’s presence in the U.S. even further as Cadillac gears up to join the grid in 2026.
