Nigerian Afro-pop singer Goodnews Oghala Emmanuel, popularly called Gnewzy, has disclosed that the sum of two hundred thousand US dollars was paid for his ransom after he was kidnapped in April 2024. The singer was kidnapped along Eklat Road in Ughelli, Delta State while the singer’s brother and manager, OBAS9ICE, narrowly escaped the attack.

Gnewzy said the abductors pretending to be policemen contacted his label’s boss, Dilly Umenyiora, to make the ransom demand. Gnewzy was then released after the payment was done on the 3rd of May, 2024.

Recently in an interview with HipTV Gnewzy narrated the events stating that he did not suffer any physical assaults but was threatened with physical violence at all times. He went on to explain how they blindfolded him warning him not to attempt anything drastic and fed him during his ordeal.
