Lecturers under the Academic Staff Union of Universities -ASUU, Gombe State University Branch have threatened to not release their students’ first semester results and also to not supervise the postgraduate theses of its students if the school administration fails to pay their owed August and September salaries.
The lecturers had made this known via a circular that was released on Wednesday, 2nd November, jointly signed by Suleiman Salihu Jauro Ph.D. and Mohammed Garba Ndogu, the academic union’s Chairperson and Secretary respectively.
In a similar development, there is a possibility of yet another industrial action in Nigerian universities as the national body of ASUU is geared up to hold an emergency meeting following the directive of the Buhari administration to pay the lecturers half salaries for the past month, October 2022.
The academic union’s national president, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, made this known in an interview with Sahara Reporters on Friday morning.
On being asked how ASUU would react to the latest development, Prof Osodeke had the Union’s decision would be made known to the public after their National Executive Council’s meeting.
Additionally, he further said that details of the meeting would be immediately disclosed in a circular.
