Teachers of primary schools in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, have closed down all the Local Education Authority, LEA offices across the six area councils over an alleged non-payment of their promotion arrears by the councils’ chairmen.

The annoyed teachers had on Friday, December 9, shut the main entrance gates of the LEA’s offices across the area councils, and afterward, it was learned that both the staff of the LEAs and teachers were seen standing in front of the office gates. But some officials of the branches of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT. had barred some staff from accessing their offices, including the LEA’s secretaries.

Meanwhile, the FCT Secretary of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, NUT, Ms. Margarethe I. Jethro, had told newsmen that the union agreed on directing all its branches to shut down the six area councils and LEA offices over the council chairmen defaulting on paying teachers’ promotion arrears.
