On an unannounced visit to the headquarters of the Benue State Board of Internal Revenue Service in Makurdi, Governor Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia of Benue State discovered a concerning situation. It was revealed that several Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) under the Ministry of Education had been generating and spending revenue without adhering to the state’s Internally Generated Revenue law.
To address this issue, Governor Alia promptly ordered an investigation into the finances of the Benue state university, teaching service board, and the State Universal Basic Education Board.
Furthermore, during his visit, the governor also inspected the office of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) where an alarming discovery was made. The warehouse of SEMA was found to be completely empty. This revelation came to light after receiving complaints from Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who had been expressing their dissatisfaction with the state’s response to their needs, particularly the lack of food provisions.
In response to these findings, Governor Alia has taken decisive action by initiating a probe into the financial practices of relevant institutions and agencies, with the aim of rectifying the situation and ensuring compliance with the law.
