This isn’t the best time for Nigerians with all fuel and cash scarcity issues, Nigerians are suffering.
To ease the stuffiness of the residents of Kogi State, Governor Yahaya Bello has ordered the arrest and prosecution of any person or business owner, or operator who refused to collect the old notes.
According to the Supreme Court which is the Apex Court, the old naira notes are to remain legal tender until December 31st, however, Banks that are dispensing these old notes have refused to collect them back, and as a result, these traders have refused to collect the old naira notes, and the new notes are scarce.
Governor Yahaya Bello through the Commissioner of Information, Kingsley Fanwo stated on Friday, stating that it is quite upsetting that some persons and businesses have refused to obey the order of the Supreme Court, which is clear disobedience of the Apex Court.
He further said that anyone who refused to accept the old notes should be reported to government agencies for action, and any bank operating in the state which refuses to accept the old naira notes, will be shut down.
As since they continue to give out the old notes they are bound to accept them.
“What Fanwo said: He said it was unacceptable that some persons and businesses continue to reject the old notes, even after the court validated their use.
“Rejecting the old naira notes is a clear disobedience of the Supreme Court ruling,” the commissioner stressed.
“Anyone who rejects the old naira notes should be reported to security and government authorities for immediate action. Also, banks that refuse to accept old naira deposits shall be sealed.”
“Since the banks are issuing the old naira notes, they are bound to also receive it. We cannot continue to kill our economy after the Supreme Court has granted us freedom.”
