Each year, specially selected major cities host Fashion Weeks. These Fashion Weeks are a series of events —that typically last for about a week— where designers debut their latest work for the world to see.
Fashion Week events are serious business, as chosen celebrities get a special invite, by the designer, to wear their pieces and have the luxury of being one of the first people to watch them showcase their recent craft on the runway. It has been said that the Fashion Week shows are something of an excuse for the rich and famous to dress up nicely and attend luxurious parties.
Although there are various Fashion Week shows hosted globally, the notable (and dare I say, most important) fashion week cities are: New York, London, Milan and Paris –in chronological order, known as the Big Four. In this article, I’ll be concentrating on the Paris Fashion Week.
The 2024 Paris Fashion Week which began on Monday, February 26 has been underway, with designers showcasing their womenswear looks ahead of the fall/winter season in the City of Love.
Among the ‘big-wigs’ and industry shakers who turned up for this year’s Paris fashion week is Ayra Starr, who just recently released the bop hit, ‘Commas’. Nigeria’s sweetheart made heads turn as she stepped out on the streets of Paris, looking gorgeous as always.
The Balmain show:
For the Balmain show held on Wednesday, February 28, the songstress, turned up in a short, shin latex minidress, featuring a cutout from the notable fashion house.
The Balmain minidress is retro-inspired and features a corseted top with thick halter straps and a Madonna-inspired cone bra.
Just underneath the bra top, is a triangular cutout that teases a small section of bare skin before it dips into an elaborate high-waisted and structured, flouncy miniskirt with latex pleats.
For her feet, Ayra Starr opted for matching latex ankle-strap heels with a floral feature on the toe. She tied up the whole look with a baby pink mini bag from Balmain.
The Balmain RTW Ready-to-Wear Fall/Winter 2024-2025 collection was designed by the talented Olivier Rousteing, who used the designs to pay tribute to his Bordeaux French heritage.
The Off-white show:
The Off-white fashion show held on Thursday, February 29 and various celebrities trooped out for it. Hollywood stars like Halle Bailey, Willow Smith and of course, Nigerian sensation, Ayra Starr were invited.
For Off-white, the singer donned on a long-sleeved lime coloured minidress featuring silver inlaid circlets at the collar, bust and on the pleats of the dress. The opposite of what she wore for the Balmain show, this look is more covered up but not less stunning.
For glam, the Grammy nominated singer went for a centre-parted hair, sky blue eyeshadow, pink blush and her signature lipgloss look.
My faveeee. I’m so happy for this win. Nigeria to the world ????
This girl is very gorgeous. Everything she wears looks effortless in her. God took his time in some people’s looks sha
