Two individuals have lost their lives due to a grizzly bear attack within Alberta’s Banff National Park, according to a statement by Parks Canada.
On Saturday night, Parks Canada issued a statement revealing that they had received a distressing alert late Friday from a GPS device, signaling a bear attack originating within Banff National Park. This incident occurred in the Red Deer River Valley, located west of Ya Ha Tinda Ranch. Unfortunately, adverse weather conditions prevented the use of helicopters, compelling the response team to undertake a ground journey through the night to reach the location.
Upon reaching the scene, the response team made a grim discovery—two individuals had tragically lost their lives in the attack. Subsequently, due to the bear’s aggressive behavior, the agency made the difficult decision to euthanize the bear.
In response to this tragic event, an area closure has been implemented encompassing Red Deer and Panther valleys. This closure will remain in effect until further notice, as confirmed by Parks Canada.
Banff National Park, a renowned destination attracting over four million tourists annually, is home to both grizzly and black bears, reminding visitors of the importance of respecting the wildlife and natural habitats within the park.
