The selection of Ahmed Halilu as the Managing Director of the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company Plc has drawn criticism from a global advocacy group, Gravitas Group. Following the departure of the previous MD, Abbas Masanawa, the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret. ), purportedly named Halilu as the company’s actual MD.
The group claimed that Halihu was related to the President’s wife in a statement released on Saturday by its convener, Tola Adeniyi, and communications director, Prof. Olugbenga Ayeni. It was concerning that the President’s brother-in-law would oversee the printing of all sensitive materials in the nation, according to the statement, which said that this move was akin to moving the nation’s Mint into the President’s bedroom
