Nigerian Afrobeats singer Davido had on Thursday showed up at Times Square in New York to show support for the Nigerian chess master, Tunde Onakoya, who is currently attempting to beat the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon.
Onakoya had begun his mission to surpass the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon for 58 hours on Wednesday, April 17 at the Times Square.
Davido, who recently sold out the iconic New York’s Madison Square Garden, had popped into the location to give moral support to his compatriot.
In videos shared across social media platforms, the singer and the elated chess master could be seen hugging and dancing.
Onakoya’s chess marathon is slated to end today, Friday, April 19.
Another Nigerian singer, Adekunle Gold had on the day the World Record attempt began, showed up to support the chess master when he visited the venue on Wednesday and had equally made donations to assist in the live streaming of the event.
So far, the Nigerian ‘chess master’, Onakoya has emerged victorious in all his encounters so far, —over 60 opponents, including his match with New York’s National Chess Master, Shawn Martinez.
