An ex-Afghan Member of Parliament, Mursal Nabizada, and her bodyguard have been shot dead at her home in the capital Kabul, according to Afghan policemen.
Mursal Nabizada, aged 32, had been one of the few female MPs who stayed on in
Kabul after the Taliban took control of power in August 2021, according to BBC News.
Nabizada’s brother and a second security guard were also injured in the attack on
Sunday, January 15.
Meanwhile, ex-colleagues have praised Ms. Nabizada as a “fearless champion for
Afghanistan” who turned down a chance to leave the country.
Recall that since the Taliban returned to power in 2021, women have been banned from nearly all areas of public life.
The Kabul police spokesman, Khalid Zadran has announced that security forces have
begun a serious investigation regarding the incident.
