Unarguably the most anticipated music award ceremony that takes place every year, the Grammys is no child’s play. This year’s ceremony came with 3 new award categories and newly set records for Nigeria’s self-professed African Giant, Burna Boy and South African artist, Tyla.
Burna Boy set the record for being the first African artist to perform live at the Grammys while Tyla set the record for being the youngest African to win a Grammy Award.
The Grammys dress code is basically a “do you” affair. This means that nominated artists (and their stylists) are given creative liberty to be as imaginative as they dare to be. On a night the whole world (artists included) watches with rapt attention to see who takes home the coveted ‘gilded gramophone’, every artist would want to look and feel their best.
The Grammy awards ceremony is a star studded event and our country-men and women did not fail to dazzle, even as some of them made their red carpet debut at the ceremony. These Nigerian artists might have failed to bring home the Grammys this year but they didn’t fail to showcase the Nigerian flair for fashion in L.A.
With no further ado, here are the stunning Nigerian stars at the 2024 Grammys ceremony:
Sarz:
The Nigerian producer left nothing to chance while gracing the Grammy red carpet. Sarz was clad in a black suit from the Luis Vuitton Spring SS24 Mens Collection, sourced for him by his stylist, Lycia Lamini. He completed the gentleman look with a fur coat from ‘Fur and Leather’, a dark sunshade from Balenciaga and black shoes.
Arya Starr:
No doubt one of my best looks from the red carpet in the African category, Arya came prepared donning on a custom baby blue chiffon two piece from designers Jeniece Blanchett and Candice Cuoco. The two piece outfit featured a delicate crystal embroidery that was hand beaded by both designers who also added a flowing sleeve to complete the goddess look. Her stylist, Janice Mahenge opted for jewellery from Fabergé and Swarovski and her makeup artist, Patrick Ta worked magic on her face. It is safe to say that Arya outfit left everyone speechless, home and abroad.
Burna Boy:
The Nigerian African Giant gave an energetic performance at the Grammys opening ceremony, even as he was also nominated in 4 categories. His outfit at the opening ceremony was from 3.Paradis AW24 with Timbaland boots.
Asake:
Never one to shy away from controversial fits, Asake took on a more understated vibe at the red carpet as he donned on a black custom Martine Rose outfit and accessorised with a silver Hublot watch, silver neck chain and wristlet.
Fireboy:
In a similar look to his long-time friend’s Asake’s outfit, Fireboy dressed gentlemam-like in a black Micheal Cromer Munich —MCM suit paired with black shoes. For accessories, he had on dark sunglasses, a Van Cleef wristlet and a silver watch.
Davido:
For his Grammy red carpet debut, Davido opted for a bespoke FRÈRE black suit with a bow tie. The three time Grammy nominated star’s suit was from FRÈRE’s tiger stripe Jacquard fabric set that is yet-to-be released. He paired the whole look with a golden watch and silver wristlet. He was styled by Yasmeen Ntwari.
Folake Olowofoyeku:
The Nigerian actress and musician kept things monochrome in a Hannai Saksskon leather outfit. For her accessories, she opted for traditional red beads for a neckpiece and bracelet, and golden ringlets for her fingers.
