When celebrity fashion designer Veekee James made the bold claim that the Holy Spirit inspired her to design the wedding gown worn by Priscilla Ojo, daughter of Nollywood star Iyabo Ojo, it quickly became the talk of social media. But while many applauded her creativity, Nigerian evangelist, Benita Okeke, is having none of it. She’s calling out Veekee’s statement, accusing her of misrepresenting Christian values with a gown she deems “indecent.”
Veekee’s ‘Holy Spirit’ Revelation: A Dream Come True or Blasphemous Hype?
In a video posted on Instagram, Veekee opened up about the journey of designing Priscilla’s wedding dress, revealing the divine inspiration she believes she received from God. According to Veekee, she prayed before embarking on the project, asking God for guidance to create a masterpiece. The result? A jaw-dropping white gown that many people hailed as a work of art.
But here’s where things took a turn.
Veekee shared: “Before we created Priscy’s wedding dress, I had gone to God and said I wanted to create a masterpiece for her.” She even went on to reveal the stress she endured throughout the process, adding, “Do you know I even lost my voice because of this stress? I’m short of words for so many reasons.”
Now, this is where it gets sticky. Does the Holy Spirit really inspire someone to create a gown that many are calling “revealing” and “immodest”?
Evangelist Okeke’s Bold Response: “That Dress Is Not Modest”
Enter Evangelist Benita Okeke. The outspoken Nigerian preacher didn’t waste any time in calling out the fashion designer’s claim, especially the part about the Holy Spirit being involved. In a video shared on her own Instagram page, Okeke came down hard on Veekee, questioning the holiness of the gown and its alignment with Christian principles.
She hit back hard: “The dress was not decent. It wasn’t modest clothing.”
But it didn’t end there. Okeke wasn’t just talking about a fashion faux pas—she questioned whether the Holy Spirit could possibly guide someone to create such a revealing piece. According to her, the design was more about style than sanctity.
“Will the Holy Spirit really lead you to make a cloth that is revealing and exposes parts of the body that are supposed to be covered?” she asked, clearly upset.
Okeke went further, saying: “If you say the Holy Spirit led you to sew a cloth that isn’t appropriate for a Christian, then it becomes a license for indecency.” Ouch. She doesn’t mince words, adding, “A cloth you wouldn’t even wear to church—how can that be of the Holy Spirit?”
So, What’s Your Take on This?
We’ve heard both sides now, but the question remains—can the Holy Spirit really inspire a wedding gown like the one Veekee James designed for Priscilla? Is this just an over-the-top claim to elevate the dress, or is there something deeper at play here?
As for me, I’m torn. On one hand, creativity and divine inspiration can sometimes intersect in unexpected ways. But on the other, is the Holy Spirit really guiding fashion designers to create outfits that leave little to the imagination?
I’m curious to hear what you think. Does Okeke have a point, or is this just another case of social media overreaction? Drop your comments below!
