Uncertainty has enveloped the residents of Oji River Local Government Area, Enugu State on Thursday, August 3 following the murder of a truck driver at Ugwuoba along popular Enugu-Onitsha expressway by hoodlums collecting produce fees for the state government.
Reports gathered that the touts stabbed the driver with a knife at around 9:30 am and thereafter, fled and went into hiding.
The truck was said to have left Wukari in Taraba State, enroute to Awka in Anambra State.
The vehicle was then accosted by the touts collecting produce at Ugwuoba in Oji River council area of Enugu State and a dispute had led to the fatal stabbing of the driver.
Afterwards truck drivers had blocked both the new road and old road for more than two hours, in protest for their slain comrade, leaving road users stranded.
One of the drivers had been heard announcing that the road would remain blocked until the Enugu State Governor or an official from the state government addresses them.
He lamented that the tout on the road have severally killed their members for doing nothing.
An eye witness who craved anonymity had said that the truck driver had informed the debt collectors that he had already paid the produce tax but the hoodlums had insisted that he had to pay again which led to a dispute after which they stabbed the truck driver on the left side of chest, killing him instantly.
