The 9th House of Representatives held its valedictory session, with notable figures such as former speakers Ghali Na’Abbas and Patricia Etteh present.
Addressing the session, Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila delivered his final speech, praising the efforts of the lawmakers over the past four years. He specifically highlighted the successful passage of significant legislation like the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) and the Electoral Act, among others.
However, Gbajabiamila highlighted the failures of the 9th House’s inability to pass several bills concerning women’s issues, which were rejected in 2022. He advised the upcoming House to embrace the challenge of prioritizing and passing gender-related bills, giving the female gender a voice in the society, by ensuring that there are laws to back them up.
It is worth noting that Gbajabiamila has been appointed as the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu. The inauguration of the next Assembly is scheduled for Tuesday.
Do you think that Gbajabiamila served well as the speaker of the ninth house?
