Afrobeat star Seun Kuti has rejected claims that he is leveraging Wizkid’s name to revive his music career, describing such suggestions as unfounded.
The musician faced criticism after he openly criticized the Starboy singer and his fanbase during recent livestream sessions, prompting speculation that he was seeking attention through controversy.
In a recent video, Kuti highlighted his accomplishments over the past year, noting that he performed 82 shows worldwide, including sold-out concerts in Australia, Europe, America, and Brazil.
Kuti stressed his established international presence, questioning the idea that his career requires any “revival.” Comparing himself to Big Bird, he suggested that the music industry is expansive enough for every artist to succeed.
He stated, “Some people are saying I am trying to use Wizkid to revive my career. When did my career die for me to be trying to revive it? Last year alone, I did 82 shows globally.
“I sold out shows in Australia, Europe, America, and Brazil. I have people who are fans of my music worldwide. I call myself Big Bird because the sky is big for everybody. Because no matter how big you are, you can’t occupy the whole sky.
“People whose careers need revival know themselves. It is not me.”
