The Kano zonal command of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has received 51 rescued victims of human trafficking.
Abdullahi Babale, the zonal commander, made this announcement on Monday in Kano during the handover of the victims rescued by the Kano State Hisbah Board.
Babale disclosed that the agency’s operatives arrested two suspects in connection with the trafficking. The rescued victims, aged between 18 and 50, consisted of 49 females and two males.
These victims were rescued on April 21 at Hotoro motor park in Kano metropolis by the State Hisbah Board while they were en route to Cote d’Ivoire to obtain visas for travel to Saudi Arabia for labor exploitation.
“Out of the 51 victims, two are from Niger Republic, while others are from Kano, Katsina, Yobe, and Jigawa states,” Babale stated.
Expressing appreciation to Dr. Aminu Daurawa, the director-general of the Kano State Hisbah Board, for his cooperation, Babale assured that investigations were ongoing and the suspects would be prosecuted.
He added, “The rescued victims will receive counseling and rehabilitation before being reunited with their families.”
