Amid the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has said he will only forgive Governor Siminalayi Fubara if the governor begs him. Wike, who is now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Governor of Rivers State, made this clear during a media parley held on Friday in Abuja. When asked if he was ready to forgive Fubara, he simply said, “Sincerely,” but added that it would only happen if Fubara came to him and genuinely asked for forgiveness.
Wike and Fubara’s political rift deepens
The feud between Nyesom Wike and Siminalayi Fubara, his former ally and successor, has grown bitter in recent months. Their fight has caused tension in Rivers State politics. Wike blamed Fubara for betraying the trust and political structure that brought him into power. Their disagreement has also affected the Rivers State House of Assembly. Twenty-seven lawmakers loyal to Wike were suspended and later defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Wike reveals efforts made to settle the dispute
During the same interview, Wike said two sitting governors have approached him to mediate peace between him and Fubara. However, he did not name them. Wike stressed that his condition for peace is clear, Fubara must admit his faults and ask for forgiveness. The crisis, which many see as a power struggle between a political godfather and his successor, has attracted national attention. Wike also said President Bola Tinubu stopped him from removing Fubara during the heat of the conflict, which saved the political situation in Rivers from total collapse.
Wike stands firm on Fubara apology
Nyesom Wike has taken a strong stance on the Rivers crisis. He made it clear that unless Governor Siminalayi Fubara apologises, there will be no forgiveness. The former governor insists that loyalty must be respected in politics. As this Rivers political crisis unfolds, all eyes remain on whether Fubara will take the bold step to reconcile or allow the tension to continue.
