“I will retire at Barcelona, but never as a substitute.” – Gerard pique

Gerard pique, Barcelona’s defender had a slight altercation with former teammate Xavi Hernadez who is currently Barcelona’s head coach, over limited playing opportunities for the team.

Pique only started in one of Barcelona’s eight matches this season, and was used as a substitute replacement for Viktoriame against Vikthoria Plzen.

It seems Pique’s glory days in Barcelona are over due to the new signings on the team, he longer gets to enjoy regular playing time.

Pique whose contract is to expire in 2024 once said that he would retire in Barcelona but not as a substitute, he also said that if he was asked to leave the club, he’ll prefer to retire than to play for another club.

“I will retire at Barcelona, but never as a substitute.”

Gerard pique

If tomorrow [Ronald] Koeman tells me I have to go, I will leave football. I am not going to play in another team that is not Barcelona.”

Pique lamented to his fellow teammates about his limited playing time, and Xavi harshly replied that he was not going to enjoy regular playing time.

“And you are gonna play even less now.”

Pique is now fifth choice central Defender at the club, this is an indicator that it is time to retire or perhaps leave the club
