The Nigeria Police Force has maintained that no court dismissed the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Usman Alkali Baba.
This declaration by the Force is coming after the Federal High Court in Awka, Anambra State had dismissed the IGP for attaining the statutory retirement age of 60 years in March 2023.
However, the Police Force headquarters had remarked that the police boss has the right to appeal the judgment.
In a statement the Force spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi had titled: “IGP Not Sacked, Disregard Trending False News” released by the Force spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, the general public was asked to ignore false news making the rounds on social media claiming the sack of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba by a Federal High Court in Awka.
The statement read:
“IGP Alkali was chosen in a letter-number SGF.20/S.6/83 dated 30th Nov 2021 for a 4-year tenure and his stay in office is within the purview of his appointment.
“IGP Usman Alkali Baba remains the Inspector-General of Police and is duty-bound to carry out the responsibilities of the office in accordance with extant laws.”
