Prof Charles Adias, the Collation Officer appointed by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for the Presidential polls in Rivers State has postponed the collation of results in the state over alleged threats to life.
This news had come early Tuesday, February 28 morning, when the resumption of collation of the remaining local government areas’ presidential results at the INEC headquarters in Port Harcourt had resumed.
Adias who is consequently the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Otuoke in Bayelsa State, had declared that his life was under duress from suspected supporters of a particular political party. The political party’s name was not directly mentioned. But according to Adias, he had been receiving death threats.
He had said:
“Every hour, I receive over one million calls of threats to my life and my family. I, therefore, stand down collation, until the INEC personnel and security agencies can guarantee my safety to continue this national assignment.”
