Several sections of the main market in Yola town have been ravaged by a fire.

According to reports, garnered on Tuesday morning, August 1, the market fire had begun late Monday night when most residents were in their respective houses sleeping.

Several sources have attested that a lot of shops had been affected, and goods worth millions of Naira were lost to the flames.

A resident, who lived close to the market, had remarked that the market was spared from complete damage thanks to the quick intervention from firefighters.

The source had however, not been definite on the cause of the fire outbreak, although it was revealed that the market was susceptible to annual fire outbreaks.

As at the time of filing this report, the State fire service has yet to speak on the situation, but the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Suleiman Nguroje, had stated that the inferno had been brought under control.

He also acknowledged the Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola, who dispatched in a timely manner, considerable men to prevent miscreants from looting the market.

With the support of the fire fighters, the situation was thankfully brought under control.

Additionally, Babatola had revealed that an investigation had begun to determine the cause of the fire.
