Inter Milan Eyes Nigerian Goalkeeper Maduka Okoye in €15 Million Transfer Deal

Inter Milan, the reigning Italian Serie A champions, are in active negotiations to sign Nigerian goalkeeper Maduka Okoye from Udinese. The 24-year-old shot-stopper has emerged as a key target for Inter as they seek to bolster their goalkeeping options ahead of the new season.

Maduka Okoye’s impressive performances in the 2023/2024 season have not gone unnoticed. Initially not the first-choice goalkeeper for Udinese, Okoye seized his opportunity in the second half of the season, making significant contributions to Udinese’s survival in Serie A. His standout moment came when he was voted man of the match in a crucial encounter against Juventus.

According to Sky Sport Italia’s renowned transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Inter Milan is keen on securing Okoye’s services to provide strong competition and support for their current number one, Yann Sommer. The Nerazzurri are negotiating a transfer fee in the region of €15 million, including bonuses and add-ons. However, they are pushing to lower the price to around €12 million plus add-ons.

Okoye’s rise to prominence has been swift. The former Watford and Sparta Rotterdam player made 22 appearances across Serie A and the Coppa Italia this season. His performances have highlighted his potential and earned him recognition as one of Nigeria’s standout players in European football.

Under contract with Udinese until June 2027, Okoye’s market value has significantly increased, making him a sought-after talent in the transfer market. With 16 senior caps for Nigeria, he is currently in the country on international duty with the Super Eagles, although he was an unused substitute in their recent World Cup qualifier against South Africa.

As talks progress, Inter Milan remains optimistic about finalizing the deal in the coming days. If successful, this move would not only bolster their squad depth but also provide Okoye with a significant step in his burgeoning career.

This potential transfer underlines Okoye’s rising stock in European football and Inter Milan’s intent to strengthen their squad as they prepare for the upcoming challenges of defending their Serie A title and competing in Europe.
