In what is being described as the most significant geopolitical earthquake since the start of the 21st century, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed on Saturday during a massive, coordinated strike by the United States and Israel.

The operation, a dual-pronged assault known as Operation Epic Fury (U.S.) and Operation Lion’s Roar (Israel), targeted the very heart of the Iranian regime. While the White House has been cautious, senior Israeli officials have confirmed that Khamenei’s secure compound in Tehran was directly hit by precision bunker-buster munitions, and his body has reportedly been identified under the rubble.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei Killed, Senior Israeli Official Says
Decapitation Strike at the Heart of Tehran

The strikes began in the early morning hours, catching the Iranian leadership during a high-level security meeting. Satellite imagery released shortly after the attack shows black plumes of smoke rising from the Pasteur district, where the Supreme Leader’s residence and offices are located.

Along with Khamenei, reports indicate that several other top-tier leaders were eliminated, including Defense Minister Amir Nasirzadeh and IRGC Commander Mohammed Pakpour. This “decapitation strike” was designed to paralyze the Iranian military’s chain of command before they could launch a full-scale response, though Tehran has already managed to fire retaliatory volleys at U.S. bases in Qatar, Bahrain, and the UAE.

Trump: “The Hour of Your Freedom is at Hand”

President Donald Trump, speaking from Florida, addressed the Iranian people directly in a video that has since gone viral. He framed the destruction of the regime as a liberation, telling Iranians that the “yoke of tyranny” has been lifted and urging them to “take over” their government.

However, the tone of the message was also one of a grim ultimatum: any Iranian soldier who does not lay down their arms will face “certain death.”

The Iranian Denial: “Mental Warfare”

Despite the confidence of Israeli intelligence, the Iranian state-linked media is fighting back with a narrative of survival. Semi-official agencies like Tasnim claim that Khamenei is “steadfast and firm,” accusing the West of engaging in “mental warfare” to incite internal chaos. They have promised a “crushing” response, and the IRGC has already signaled that all U.S. interests in the region are now legitimate targets.

A World on the Brink

The death of an 86-year-old leader who has ruled with an iron fist since 1989 leaves a void that may be filled by even more radical elements. Whether this leads to the “New Iran” Trump envisions or a decades-long regional war is a question that will be answered in blood and fire over the coming days.
