My Dearest Readers,

Have you been longing for a juicy tidbit of gossip? Fear not, for Lady Whistledown has returned! Today, we delve into a delightful novel that will resonate with many – “Yinka, Where Is Your Husband?” by Lizzie Damilola Blackburn.

The Plight of Yinka

Meet Yinka, a charming British-Nigerian woman in her early thirties. While Yinka possesses a fulfilling career and wonderful friends, societal pressures loom large. Unmarried and heartbroken from a past relationship, Yinka faces constant questions about her lack of a husband. Her family, particularly her mother and Aunt Debbie, relentlessly pester her to settle down.

Operation Wedding Date

Determined to quell the nagging questions, Yinka embarks on a hilarious, yet relatable, quest to find a date for her cousin’s wedding. She meticulously crafts a plan, complete with spreadsheets and online dating profiles, all in the hopes of securing the perfect arm candy.

A Journey of Self-Discovery

However, Yinka’s quest takes an unexpected turn. Under pressure, she neglects her needs and loses sight of who she truly is. Her focus shifts to conforming to societal expectations, causing a strain on friendships and her own happiness.

Love Unexpected

Through a series of heartwarming moments and humorous situations, Yinka embarks on a journey of self-discovery. She learns that true fulfillment comes from embracing her unique self and prioritizing her own happiness. As she lets go of societal pressures, love finds her in the most unexpected place – a rekindled connection with a childhood friend.

Beyond the Romance

“Yinka, Where Is Your Husband?” is more than just a love story. It explores themes of cultural identity, family dynamics, and the pressures faced by young women. The novel tackles universal questions about societal expectations and the importance of staying true to oneself.

A Delightful Read

This witty and heartwarming novel will leave you laughing, reflecting, and cheering for Yinka. Blackburn’s writing is captivating, and her characters are relatable and well-developed. This delightful debut is a must-read for anyone who has ever felt the pressure to conform!

Until Next Time,

Dearest readers, I urge you to pick up a copy of “Yinka, Where Is Your Husband?” and lose yourself in its charming pages. Remember, gossip is delightful, but self-discovery is truly divine. Until next time, stay hydrated and mind your business!

As a young lady living in Nigeria, I related so much with the themes of this book.

Young girls are conditioned from birth to pander to men with the end goal to get married, birth kids and take care of the home and when this doesn’t happen as expected, the woman is labelled ‘used’, ‘old cargo’ and other derogatory terms.

This is because the society in general could care less about a woman’s accomplishments if at the end of the day, she has no man to call her own.

Overall, this is a brilliant read and I’ll recommend it to everyone.

Seems like an interesting book.. I haven’t read it but I don’t mind reading now.. excellent review on the book too. No too much details yet enough to make you want to read the book..
Societal pressure is one thing you will face as a person, not just a woman and honestly, it needs to be addressed because a lot of people lose themselves to it and it becomes the source of menace in the society.

    Thank you Joan
