What Happened?

Israel confirmed that six rockets were fired from Lebanon. Three entered Israeli airspace but were intercepted. No group claimed responsibility, but Israel blames Hezbollah, which denies involvement.

In retaliation, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered strikes on dozens of targets in Lebanon. The Israeli military said it hit Hezbollah’s rocket launchers and command centers.

Israel Strikes Lebanon After Rocket Attack

Lebanon’s state news agency (NNA) reported Israeli airstrikes and artillery fire in border towns and hilltops. The Lebanese Health Ministry confirmed two deaths and eight injuries from the strikes.

Meanwhile, in Gaza, five Palestinians were killed by Israeli fire, including a child. The Israeli military said its forces targeted militants in northern Gaza.

Ceasefire in Jeopardy

This is the first major attack since Israel abandoned the U.S.-brokered ceasefire with Hamas in Gaza. The ceasefire agreement stated that:

  • Hezbollah must disarm and withdraw from southern Lebanon
  • Israeli ground forces must leave Lebanese territory
  • The Lebanese army must secure the border
  • However, both sides accuse each other of breaking the deal.

Israel says Hezbollah still operates in southern Lebanon, while Hezbollah claims Israel still occupies border areas.

UN Warns of Escalation

The United Nations peacekeeping force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) warned that the situation is volatile and could lead to a regional war. Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam urged restraint but insisted that Lebanon will defend its sovereignty.

Netanyahu declared that Israel will hold Lebanon accountable for all attacks launched from its territory. He warned that Israel will take further military action if necessary.

With Israel striking Lebanon after a rocket attack and tensions rising, the ceasefire is hanging by a thread. From what we are seeing, another war between Israel and Hezbollah is inevitable.
