Italy’s right-wing Giorgia Meloni, Ethiopia’s prime minister, has started a two-day trip there to discuss plans for an African energy cooperation agreement that will start in October.
She claims that the “Mattei plan” will turn Italy into a significant energy center, supplying gas to countries in Europe from the Mediterranean and North Africa.
Instead of importing gas from Russia, Italy is increasingly doing so from Algeria and other African nations.
Ethiopia’s location on the migration route from the Horn of Africa to Europe, according to Italy’s ANSA daily, makes the “stability and integrity” of Ethiopia a priority for the national interest.
