Most coloured footballers have been faced with racial abuse several times, many a time this abuse has been ignored and it’s a thing of joy to see the court taking action against it.
Ivan Toney was sent a racist message on October 14th, 2022, the footballer posted the picture on his Instagram page. Immediately the Northumbria police, assisted by the Metropolitan police began an investigation into the matter, they were able to trace the message to Antonio Neill, and he was arraigned before the Magistrates in Newcastle.
He pleaded guilty to the charge, he was given a 4 months sentence and then a 3 years ban. This would serve as a deterrent to several others who engage in sending racial messages.
