The latest announcement by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has set the stage for the upcoming 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). With this revelation, the spotlight falls on a system fraught with controversy and concerns.

JAMB’s Public Communication Adviser, Fabian Benjamin, revealed that the main UTME will run from April 19 to 29, 2024. This disclosure emerged from recommendations stemming from a recent Information Technology and Management Retreat held between November 26th and 28th, 2023.

In the wake of these revelations, the application document for the UTME is scheduled to be on sale from January 15th to February 26th, 2024. Moreover, a MOCK-UTME has been earmarked for March 7, 2024.

However, amid these dates and directives, a cloud of skepticism looms large. The recurrent cycle of JAMB exams and subsequent graduations seems to lead graduates down a road to uncertainty. Many lament the continuous struggle without tangible prospects, leading to the question haunting many minds: “Is education merely a facade?”

The narrative of Nigeria’s educational system harbors a distressing reality—a surplus of graduates grappling with joblessness.

As JAMB unveils its roadmap for the upcoming exams, it raises more profound societal questions about the state of education and its real-world impact on the lives of graduates. In a country where unemployment casts a shadow over academic achievements, the resounding cry for change in the system echoes louder than ever.
