Colombia skipper James Rodriguez has penned a brief contract with Major League Soccer club Minnesota United, the club announced on Friday, as the experienced playmaker keeps in view the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 34-year-old, formerly Real Madrid and Bayern Munich star, is coming off his spell at the Mexican club León. Minnesota revealed that Rodriguez’s contract is initially secured till June, and the option to extend it till December is also there.

Rodriguez conveyed his excitement about the change, terming it as an opening of a thrilling new chapter in his life. He stated that he intends to give his best service to the club and has a good time connecting with fans, thus promising a lot of work and dedication on the pitch.
The club management of Minnesota United is very happy about this addition, requesting the midfielder’s high pedigree and top-level playing experience. Chief soccer officer and sporting director Khaled El-Ahmad applauded Rodriguez’s ability to come up with the unexpected, great insight, and natural understanding of the game, and at the same time pointed out that his recruitment is more about raising the team level than about counting on a single star player.
