Nigerian actor and skit maker Mr. Macaroni has expressed deep admiration for chess champion Tunde Onakoya, praising his Chess in Slums Africa project as a powerful tool for change.
In a social media post shared on Tuesday, Mr. Macaroni celebrated Onakoya’s dedication to uplifting children from disadvantaged communities through the game of chess, describing his impact as one that should inspire national support and unity.
“The work Tunde Onakoya is doing is not just commendable, it is tremendously inspiring!!! At the end of the day, what we all want is a better Country that we all can be proud of and there are different ways to achieve that. We all must play our part,” he wrote.
His message came shortly after Onakoya paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Tinubu, where he presented his Guinness World Record certificate for the longest chess marathon, along with a unique gold-plated Adire chess set.
The president, while receiving Onakoya, lauded his achievement as a symbol of the determination and brilliance of young Nigerians, and shared interest in supporting the nationwide expansion of the chess initiative.
